In the case of a missing Bundaberg teenager, her housemate, James Wood, has been released by Queensland Police after a period of questioning. The 34-year-old was taken into custody regarding the disappearance of 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop, who went missing three weeks ago. Pheobe resided with Wood and his partner, Tanika Bromley, in Gin Gin; they were the last individuals to see her after dropping her off at Bundaberg Airport on May 15, around 8.30am, for a flight to Western Australia.

Despite plans to visit her boyfriend in Western Australia, Pheobe didn’t check in for her flight and never entered the airport. Authorities, including the Homicide Investigation Unit, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Last week, the police concluded their search in the Good Night Scrub National Park, an area previously focused on in the search efforts, amid indications they found evidence related to Pheobe’s case, though specifics have not been disclosed. Detectives suspect that certain evidence may have been moved from the search area prior to their investigation.

Crime scenes have been established at both the Gin Gin residence and Wood’s grey Hyundai ix35. Inside the vehicle, police discovered a shortened firearm, ammunition, and two replica handguns, while additional ammunition was found at the home. Following these findings, both Wood and Bromley have been charged with unrelated weapons offences and are currently before the courts.
