In a heated discussion following a match between the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs, Paul Gallen voiced his opinion that Sean O’Sullivan should have faced a sin bin for his high tackle on Rabbitohs fullback Jye Gray. This incident occurred late in the game, which saw the Rabbitohs ahead at 30-18. As Gray attempted to dodge through a gap, he lost possession of the ball and was hit by O’Sullivan, resulting in him leaving the field for a concussion assessment.

Despite the controversy, Bulldogs coach Brad Fittler defended O’Sullivan, stating that the contact was somewhat unavoidable due to Gray’s sudden fall. He explained that O’Sullivan couldn’t have anticipated Gray’s movement, suggesting that the situation was more complex than it appeared.

Tensions rose on the Rabbitohs side as forward Tallis Duncan confronted referee Todd Smith, who had only reported the incident rather than penalising O’Sullivan. Captain Cameron Murray attempted to temper the situation, expressing concern about player safety and emphasising the need for accountability, to which the ref acknowledged there were mitigating factors involved.

Commenting on the situation, Gallen raised concerns about the implications of O’Sullivan remaining on the field while Gray had to undergo a head injury assessment. He argued that the Rabbitohs suffered significantly since they lost one of their key players in a tight match, suggesting that players causing such injuries should be sin binned to maintain fairness and safety.

Despite the intensity of the final minutes and some additional skirmishes, including a confrontation involving Latrell Mitchell, the match concluded without further escalation. The Rabbitohs managed to secure a victory with a final score of 32-24.
