Australian Test captain Pat Cummins expressed confidence in teenage batter Sam Konstas’ ability to reclaim his place at the top of the order ahead of the World Test Championship final in June. Despite a challenging period in the Sheffield Shield following a promising Test debut, Cummins believes Konstas is committed to learning and will enhance his game further.

Cummins noted Konstas, at just 19, had a thrilling introduction to international cricket and anticipated his swift adaptation, particularly after experiencing the varying pitches in Sri Lanka alongside the team. “There are a few Sheffield Shield games left for him,” Cummins remarked, implying that Konstas’ name would likely arise during discussions for selection for the final.

As Cummins prepares for a return from paternity leave after welcoming his daughter, he commented on the strong talent available for selection in the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy match against England. He highlighted the exciting potential of both established players and young talent, indicating a bright future for the team.

Cummins is determined to ensure he is fit for the World Test Championship final, affirming, “I’ll make sure I’ll be right for it.” Australia’s group stage match against England is slated for 8pm (AEDT) on Saturday evening.
