A paraglider in Corryong, north-east Victoria, had to be rescued after becoming trapped in a tree during an emergency landing on Monday, February 3. The incident occurred around 3pm when strong winds made it difficult for the woman to dislodge herself from the 10-metre tall tree.
Emergency services were alerted, leading to the dispatch of members from the Victoria Police Search and Rescue (SAR) Squad, who were flown in from Melbourne. They trekked 300 metres to reach the stranded paraglider. A SAR team member climbed the tree to establish a roping system, successfully lowering her to the ground.
The rescue concluded at approximately 8:40pm when the woman was airlifted by helicopter. Inspector James Dalton from the Water Police and Search and Rescue Squads noted the complexity of the situation due to the challenging terrain and strong winds. Fortunately, the paraglider did not require any medical assistance after the operation.
