Over 25,000 homes in South Australia are currently experiencing power outages due to a transmission fault, coinciding with the onset of a heatwave in the region. The situation has affected areas on the Yorke Peninsula, where crews are gradually working to restore electricity. As of 11 am ACDT, the SA Power Networks website indicated more than 25,000 residents were without power, a number that had peaked at 27,000 early in the morning.
A spokesperson for SA Power Networks acknowledged the outages, specifying that the issue stemmed from faults in the transmission network beyond their control. Multiple faults have been identified in the area, and investigations and repairs are ongoing. The spokesperson also expressed apologies for the delays in bringing power back to affected households.
ElectraNet, the electricity provider responsible for the transmission network, confirmed the failures, stating that they are actively working to restore power swiftly. With temperatures across parts of the Yorke Peninsula already reaching the low 30s and forecasted to climb to 35 degrees, the urgency to resolve the outages is heightened.
Residents are advised to stay updated on power restoration efforts as crews continue their work in challenging conditions.
