Authorities in New South Wales and Federal Police have sent over 1,000 letters to families in Sydney, alerting them to the alleged criminal conduct of a man who worked with children in the northern suburbs and the CBD. The correspondence aims to inform families that their child may have encountered this individual, though police have clarified that receiving the letter does not indicate that any child was a victim.
Reportedly, the man in question was charged with criminal behaviour offences in October 2024 and is currently in custody. Due to legal restrictions, details regarding his identity, place of employment, and the children involved cannot be disclosed.
Investigations have revealed that the individual allegedly displayed inappropriate behaviour and reportedly possessed disturbing material on his phone. According to an Australian Federal Police statement, although it is believed that only a small number of children are affected by the alleged actions, parents and guardians of any potential contacts have been notified.
The NSW Police Force is collaborating with several state departments, including NSW Health, the Department of Communities and Justice, the Department of Education, and the Office of the Children’s Guardian, to facilitate the investigation. They are actively assisting the AFP with a thorough process of identifying potential victims.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who received the letter to read it thoroughly and to contact the hotline provided in the correspondence for any further inquiries or concerns.
