Optus Announces Upcoming Price Increases for Mobile Plans
Optus has notified customers of a forthcoming increase in prices for select monthly mobile plans, effective June 4, 2025. The telecommunications provider has sent out emails detailing the changes, which vary from $2 to $6 per month depending on the specific plan.
Anthony Shiner, Optus’s managing director of customer solutions, has confirmed that this price adjustment is aimed at bolstering the company’s ability to enhance network speed, coverage, and overall reliability. "We’re committed to helping keep Australians connected and continue to invest in improving the speed, coverage and reliability of our network, as well as enhancing technology, to provide a great experience for our customers," Shiner stated.
The revised pricing will apply to the company’s Choice, ChoicePlus, and Business Mobile Plus plans. For example, the Optus Choice Plus plan, which currently costs $52 per month, will increase to $55. Along with the price hike, affected customers will see an increase in their monthly data allowance, with increments ranging from 20GB to 40GB, depending on their specific plan.
It’s important to note that customers making device payments through Optus will not experience any changes to their payment amounts. New subscribers to Optus will begin at the higher rates immediately.
Shiner also emphasised that impacted customers will receive notifications through email or SMS to explain the changes clearly. "Optus understands that many of our customers are coping with a range of increases in expenses, and for customers in need, or who just have questions, our team is here to help," he added.
The context of these price adjustments arrives amidst various economic pressures facing consumers, highlighting the importance of customer support during this transition.
