In a recent revelation, Opposition leader Peter Dutton shared that his father, Bruce Dutton, suffered a heart attack shortly before a significant leaders’ debate last night. Dutton spoke about this concerning news during an interview on Nova radio, where he disclosed that he contemplated withdrawing from the debate due to his father’s health scare.
Although there were reports circulating about the heart attack following the debate, confirmation came only this morning. Dutton reassured listeners that his father was doing well, having checked in with him earlier that day. He spoke highly of his father, expressing that at 80 years old, Bruce remains strong and resilient.
Dutton mentioned, “I considered pulling out of the debate.” However, with updates from his sisters who were with their father, he decided to proceed with the debate. He affectionately noted, “He’s a great man, and I love him very much.”
During the debate with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, key issues discussed included Medicare, rising living costs, and fuel prices. After the event, feedback from a panel of 100 audience members resulted in Albanese being declared the winner. Of those polled, 44 voters backed the Prime Minister, while 35 opted for Dutton, with 21 remaining undecided.
Looking ahead, both leaders are set to face off again in a second debate hosted by ABC next Wednesday night.
