A tragic jet ski accident occurred in Sydney’s south, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old boy and leaving a 14-year-old boy severely injured. Emergency services responded to an urgent call late yesterday evening when two girls on the riverbank noticed fragments of the jet ski in Georges River, along with the younger boy struggling in the water, calling for help and intermittently losing consciousness.
Preliminary reports suggest that the boys were riding the jet ski beneath Tom Uglys Bridge in Sylvania when they collided with an unseen obstacle, which led to them being ejected into the water. The police officer who was among the first responders dived in and rescued the 14-year-old, who was later taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital for treatment of a serious arm injury.
Inspector Timothy Carter commended the officer’s bravery, describing his actions as “heroic.” He expressed deep sympathy for the families affected by the accident, stating that the police did everything possible to save the boys’ lives.
Family friend Fred Nagi offered his condolences to the family of the deceased boy, while the distraught father of the injured boy speculated that the boys may have been heading home when the crash occurred, potentially striking a barge in the dark conditions.
As the investigation continues, a crime scene has been established, with police preparing a report for the coroner.
