A tragic car accident occurred this morning on the Princes Highway in Waterfall, Sydney, resulting in one fatality and six injuries. At approximately 6.10am, three vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lanes, leading to a Mitsubishi Outlander being pushed through the guardrail and rolling down an embankment toward railway tracks, where it eventually landed on its roof.
Initial investigations by NSW Police suggest that the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 60-year-old man from Lake Illawarra, veered across the centre barrier, colliding with two oncoming vehicles. Sadly, he lost his life in the collision, with police expressing condolences to his family. Among the wounded are two local tradespeople, all of whom were en route to work at the time of the incident.
Authorities believe speed was a contributing factor, as the vehicles were travelling at least 80km/h. During peak hour traffic, one of the southbound lanes of the highway was temporarily closed but has since been reopened. Police are urging any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward and assist with their investigation.
