Corazon Amurao, a nurse, managed to escape a deadly encounter by concealing herself under a bed while her assailant, Speck, was momentarily out of the room. It is believed that Speck lost track of his victims, inadvertently overlooking her presence. Amurao stayed hidden until 6am, at which point she emerged, safe but shaken, after Speck had vacated the premises.

Just two days following the incident, Speck was apprehended due to a doctor who recognised him from Amurao’s description. The distinctive “born to raise hell” tattoo on Speck’s body played a pivotal role in identifying him and led to his eventual arrest.
