In February, intermediaries linked to the dictator assured four individuals that their past grievances were resolved and that they would receive pardons if they returned to their homeland. However, upon their return to Iraq, they were compelled to divorce. Tragically, within 24 hours, the al-Majid brothers lost their lives. Various reports suggest they died following a protracted 13-hour firefight, although Saddam Hussein alleged that they were executed by military officer Ali Hassan al-Majid, infamously known as Chemical Ali.
