A senior constable who was off-duty was reportedly assaulted by a group of teenagers on a tram in the Gold Coast while trying to intervene in a situation where a girl was verbally abusing staff. The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday, June 14, shortly after the 39-year-old officer had completed his shift and was on his way home.

Upon identifying himself and attempting to address the inappropriate behaviour, the officer faced aggression from the girl and three teenage boys. He sustained bruises and scratches during the altercation and left the tram at the next stop in Parkwood East to report the incident to on-duty officers.

Police swiftly responded, halting the tram at Parkwood. They arrested four teenagers: a 15-year-old girl from Oxenford, a 16-year-old boy from Slacks Creek, a 17-year-old boy from New Beith, and another 15-year-old boy from Yarrabilba. The girl has been charged with serious assault against a police officer and is set to appear in Southport Children’s Court. Meanwhile, the two boys aged 16 and 17 will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

Authorities are calling for witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
