John Strange recently provided insights on Jessica Sergis following her limited participation in the Blues’ significant 26-6 triumph against Queensland. The match, held at Allianz Stadium in challenging wet conditions, saw NSW clinch the series against the Maroons. Olivia Kernick was a standout performer, scoring twice, while halfback Jesse Southwell demonstrated an impressive kicking game, crucial in the damp weather.

In contrast, Sergis had a disappointing outing, as she left the field due to reported neck soreness before half-time and did not return for the second half. The nature of her injury remains somewhat unclear, though Strange mentioned that she seemed “disorientated” both in the changing rooms and on the sidelines following the game.

“She’s fine now — she took a bit of a knock, but I’m not really sure,” Strange commented. He noted that a few players had experienced heavy tackles in the first half, which was unfortunate. Sergis appeared unwell at half-time, leading to a conversation with her and the medical staff before her decision to leave the game. After the match, she continued to feel disoriented but began regaining her composure about 15 minutes later.

As for her participation in the upcoming game, Strange indicated that it would depend on medical advice, emphasising that player health will take precedence, stating they wouldn’t rush anyone back too soon.

Another player of concern from the game was winger Jaime Chapman, who performed admirably with a stunning try before leaving the field with a leg injury. Strange assured fans that Chapman would likely be fit for the next match in Newcastle, citing her eagerness to return to play. He initially suspected cramping but ultimately decided to substitute her for caution, prioritising her recovery over immediate game needs.

This thorough update highlights the continuing assessments and fitness decisions faced by the Blues’ coaching staff as they prepare for the series finale.
