Kayal Iro, a centre for the Sharks, has recently updated his name to KL Iro, a change reflective of his father’s initials, Kevin Leslie Iro. He shared the backstory of this adjustment during a recent interview on the Sharks’ website. According to Iro, “KL” was intended to be his name from birth; however, his mother insisted on modifying the spelling before his discharge from the hospital. Throughout his life, Iro’s father used “KL,” and he expressed that moving to Australia motivated him to embrace this name change.
Feeling that “KL” is simpler to pronounce and remember, Iro believes that this name will help others recognise him more easily. Despite this shift, it is important to note that Kayal remains his legal name in official records.
