Manly Sea Eagles have demonstrated a serious approach to player safety following a head injury assessment involving Jake Trbojevic, which was prioritised by the club over an independent doctor’s advice. During the match against the Roosters at Brookvale Oval, Trbojevic was seen leaving the field in the 56th minute, appearing visibly upset and gesturing at club personnel as he headed up the tunnel.

According to sideline reporter Danika Mason from Nine, the club made a category two decision for the head injury assessment. Trbojevic later passed the necessary tests and returned to the field. The veteran forward, who has a known history of concussions, including three from the previous season, has started wearing specific headgear to mitigate these issues.

Recent discussions have arisen regarding Trbojevic’s future with the Sea Eagles, leading to some speculation about his role in the team. In a recent mid-week press conference, his brother Tom defended him passionately, asserting that the surrounding commentary has been unjust. Former NSW Blues player James Maloney also expressed strong disapproval of the criticism. Speaking on The Rugby League Journeymen, he stated that Trbojevic is not to blame for the team’s struggles, emphasising that anyone with a sound understanding of the game knows the issues at Manly run deeper.

Trbojevic’s ongoing battle with concussions remains a cause for concern, and his safety has become a paramount issue for the club as they navigate his health alongside performance expectations.
