A 16-year-old girl reported being sexually touched by a man at a George Street chemist in Sydney on Friday evening. Following this incident, police initiated an investigation which led to a search warrant being executed at a Blacktown apartment in the early hours of Saturday. The man, identified as Graham James Kay, known as the “North Shore Rapist,” was arrested at the apartment and taken to Blacktown Police Station. He faces a charge of sexually touching another person without consent.

Kay, who was released on parole in 2023 after serving 20 years for sexually motivated crimes against eight women in Sydney’s north during the 1990s, had previously been reincarcerated in 2022 for stalking and intimidation. Reports indicate that in 2015, he was released after a previous conviction, and a year ago, he lost a legal battle to keep his identity secret, with a judge ruling that public safety necessitated disclosure of his name.

During a court appearance today at Parramatta Local Court, Kay’s lawyer opted not to apply for bail, and the case has been scheduled to return to Downing Centre on Monday. He was refused bail and remains in custody.
