A Queensland business owner is in intensive care following a brutal robbery at his jewellery store in Chermside. The incident unfolded around 5pm yesterday when four masked assailants, armed with hammers and metal bars, stormed the shop located on Gympie Road.

The owner, Bijay Sunar, was struck on the head, rendering him unconscious and causing him to collapse. His wife, Samita, expressed her shock upon seeing him covered in blood, while bystanders described the chaotic scene as resembling a “horror movie.” Witness Bivek noted the attackers used various tools, including crowbars and axes, during the frightening event.

Despite Bijay’s attempt to thwart the robbery, he suffered a further blow to the head. He managed to retreat to a back room, clutching his injured head and bleeding profusely. Samita recounted her desperation in calling for help after seeing her husband in such dire condition.

The brazen attack lasted a mere four minutes, with the robbers making multiple trips to their getaway vehicle, a grey Honda CR-V with Queensland registration 495ZJW. Witnesses described a noisy scene with people yelling, yet few intervened as the robbery took place.

Emergency services were summoned, and Bijay was quickly transported to hospital, where he is currently stable but facing serious injuries, including an eye fracture and bleeding from his inner ear, which has affected his hearing. Meanwhile, the shop has been left in disarray, with the couple estimating losses of about $500,000 in 24-carat gold jewellery.

As the police continue their investigation, the perpetrators remain at large. Samita voiced her frustration and hope for swift justice, stating she wishes for the thieves to be caught to prevent others from experiencing such trauma. Authorities are appealing for any information, including dashcam or CCTV footage from the area surrounding the incident.
