Renowned journalist Liz Hayes has announced her departure from Nine after an impressive 44 years with the network. Although leaving her full-time role, Hayes will continue to contribute to the Nine family by covering special stories and events while exploring new opportunities.
Starting her journey with 9News as a reporter in 1981, Hayes went on to host the morning bulletin before co-hosting the popular morning show Today alongside Steve Liebmann from 1986 to 1996. She joined 60 Minutes in 1996, reporting on major global events, including US elections and the Syrian refugee crisis, as well as various natural disasters. Her exceptional work has garnered multiple accolades, including a Logie Award for her documentary The Greatest Gift and the 2024 Media Diversity Australia Award for Under Investigation with Liz Hayes.
Reflecting on her time at Nine, Hayes expressed gratitude for the experiences and friendships formed over the years, stating, “I leave Nine grateful for the decades of experience and deeply appreciative to those who trusted me to tell their stories.” As she embarks on this new chapter, Hayes remains committed to the pursuit of storytelling, highlighting its enduring importance in an ever-evolving media landscape.
