A recent report from the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) reveals that petrol prices in certain Brisbane locations are among the highest in Australia, averaging $1.90 per litre. In contrast, Perth’s prices are around 13 cents cheaper. This disparity has led the RACQ to urge the Queensland government to introduce a daily price hike cap of 5 cents.

RACQ policy advisor Ian Jeffreys highlighted that petrol prices can fluctuate significantly, with variations between 30 to 40 cents on average and potential price increases of up to 50 cents at individual sites.

Premier David Crisafulli expressed his commitment to investigating this issue, emphasising the need for increased competition in the market. Data showed that petrol prices around Brisbane suburbs can vary by as much as 30 cents per litre. The cheapest suburbs to refuel include Kuraby, Deagon, and Zillmere, while Milton, Mount Ommaney, and Toowong rank as the most expensive.

In Ipswich, Walloon offers the best prices, and Molendinar is noted for its value on the Gold Coast. Jeffreys noted that if global oil prices decrease, a modest drop in fuel prices could occur in the near future.
