A new street gang known as G7 has emerged in Sydney, reportedly assisting established crime organisations amidst a protracted gang rivalry. Law enforcement officials allege that G7 is behind a series of serious crimes, including home invasions, car thefts, and aggravated break-ins throughout the city. It’s claimed that the gang has prepared 17 vehicles for use in ongoing gang conflicts.
The G7 was initially identified earlier this year when detectives from the financial crimes squad began probing their suspected role in supplying vehicles to prominent gangs. This investigation intensified, leading to the establishment of a taskforce. Recently, police made significant arrests, detaining four individuals aged 18 to 21. Among those arrested was an 18-year-old man at a correctional facility on the Mid North Coast, who faces multiple charges, including participation in a criminal group and firearm possession.
Authorities conducted raids at homes in Greystanes and Menai, uncovering nearly $30,000 in cash, over a kilogram of cocaine, a shotgun, and several rounds of ammunition, along with numerous mobile phones. On the same day, a 21-year-old man was apprehended while driving in Narellan, charged with crimes related to gang activity and illegal firearms possession. Another 21-year-old was also arrested in Blacktown on similar charges, highlighting the wide-ranging impact of the G7’s activities.
Police are continuing their investigations into G7, with nine other members and associates previously charged in various operations. A recent arrest included a fourth individual, who received a notice for a future court appearance, facing charges related to gang participation and unauthorised use of a vehicle. The ongoing efforts by law enforcement demonstrate a concerted attempt to dismantle this newly formed gang and its connections to broader criminal networks in Sydney.
