Fresh allegations have emerged against a junior doctor accused of secretly placing a recording device in a female staff bathroom at a prominent hospital in Melbourne. Ryan Cho, aged 27, was arrested at his residence in Croydon today and subsequently questioned by police.
He now faces an additional five charges, including three counts related to the production of intimate images, one count for using an optical surveillance device, and another for failing to comply with police directives during the investigation. Cho is set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
The initial set of charges against Cho was laid on July 10, when he was accused of stalking and unlawfully using an optical surveillance device. Police allege that he recorded video footage using his phone in a restricted area—a staff bathroom—at Austin Hospital in Heidelberg. This incident reportedly took place on July 3, and the device is believed to have been installed for an extended period before it was discovered by staff.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities have identified several additional hospitals where Cho was employed from 2020 to 2025 as potential sites of interest. These establishments are located both in Melbourne’s central business district and across regional Victoria. Police have commenced outreach efforts to these hospitals and are in the process of contacting staff members who may have been affected during Cho’s tenure.
This investigation is expected to be lengthy, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and the potential impact on those involved.
