A new $130 million snack distribution centre has opened in Truganina, Melbourne’s west, marking a significant boost for the Victorian economy and reinforcing the state’s reputation as Australia’s food and beverage hub. The facility, which is twice the size of the MCG, is operated by Mondelez Australia, the parent company behind Cadbury.

Chief Executive Toby Smith announced that the centre will handle an impressive 4 million blocks of chocolate weekly, operating year-round. Equipped with advanced robotic cranes and conveyor systems, the centre employs 200 staff members to enhance operational efficiency.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan officiated the opening of the centre, stating that this investment is a powerful indicator that Melbourne is open for business and is the premier destination for investment in Australia. Notably, the Truganina facility will accommodate the processing of all 450 million Cadbury Easter eggs consumed by Australians each year, highlighting its critical role in the country’s chocolate supply chain.

Industry Minister Danny Pearson humorously noted that if anyone inquired about the Easter bunny’s residence, Truganina would be the answer. Adding a personal touch, Premier Allan shared her favourite Cadbury product, Turkish Delight, which she acknowledged could be seen as controversial.

Overall, the launch of this distribution centre is being celebrated as a significant endorsement for Victoria’s industry landscape and its leadership in the food sector.
