French authorities are investigating the tragic deaths of British couple Andrew and Dawn Searle, aged 62 and 56, respectively, whose bodies were discovered at their rural farmhouse in Les Pesquiès, Aveyron. Andrew reportedly died from hanging, while Dawn suffered severe head trauma inflicted by a blunt and sharp object, as confirmed by a post-mortem examination.
The couple was found by a concerned neighbour who had arranged a dog walk but could not locate them. Dawn’s body was discovered partially undressed outside the home, alongside a decorative jewellery box; however, no weapon has been recovered that could explain her injuries. Despite signs of a cursory search of the property, cash was left undisturbed in their bedroom.
Investigators are considering various scenarios, including the possibility of a domestic crime followed by suicide, or involvement from an external party. The couple, who had been living in the village for five years and recently married, have four children from previous marriages who are requesting privacy during this time. The UK Foreign Office is supporting the family and coordinating with French officials as the inquiry unfolds. Toulouse police are using drones and forensics to gather evidence, with all possibilities being explored regarding the circumstances of their deaths.
