In New South Wales, a lottery winner is racing against time to claim a $200,000 prize from a ticket purchased six years ago. The fortunate individual bought an unregistered ticket for the Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot at Yagoona Newsagency in April 2019. As per NSW regulations, winners have a six-year window to claim their winnings, and the deadline is swiftly approaching—April 15, 2025.
The ticket has yet to be claimed, leaving officials at a loss as they have no contact details for the winner. Thao Nguyen, the owner of Yagoona Newsagency, expressed her disbelief that the ticketholder has not come forward in six years. Every time a customer checks their ticket, she holds out hope that it might be the long-awaited claim.
Nguyen stressed the importance of checking old tickets, urging patrons to dig through their wallets, handbags, and pockets. Eliza Wregg, a spokesperson for The Lott, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that the winner may have been unaware of their life-changing fortune all along.
“Imagine going through life for six years not realising you’re holding onto a winning ticket for $200,000,” Wregg said. The anticipation builds as the deadline nears, with both the newsagent and the lottery officials waiting for that elusive winner to come forward.
