Lachlan Galvin has publicly addressed his recent departure from the Wests Tigers, revealing the motives behind his decision for the first time. The 19-year-old’s contract situation has been a hot topic in rugby league circles over the past couple of months, culminating in his formal release from the Tigers and signing a long-term contract with the Bulldogs.

His exit from Concord has been dubbed tumultuous, with speculation suggesting tensions between him and club legend Benji Marshall, particularly regarding Marshall’s coaching approach. However, in a discussion with Nine’s Danny Weidler, Galvin expressed gratitude towards Marshall for providing him with his debut and emphasised that financial reasons did not drive his decision to leave.

Galvin highlighted his desire for personal growth as a key factor, stating, “I wanted a change… to get out of my comfort zone.” He countered assumptions that money motivated his move, asserting that it was not the primary consideration.

Addressing allegations of bullying linked to social media interactions with Jarome Luai and Sunia Turuva, Galvin refrained from providing extensive details but noted an “agreement” regarding his departure. He dismissed claims of a feud with Luai, insisting they maintained a cordial relationship and communicated well during their time as teammates.

Galvin also addressed reports of teammates mocking him upon his decision to leave, which he deemed false. The young player firmly took responsibility for his choice, clarifying that his manager, Isaac Moses, merely facilitated his decisions rather than directing them.

He acknowledged the backlash from Tigers fans, many of whom saw him as a beacon of hope for a struggling club. “I understand where they’re coming from… they can have their opinion and their hatred, and I get that,” he stated.

As he transitions to the Bulldogs, Galvin is eager to embrace his new journey under the guidance of coach Cameron Ciraldo, describing him as a “cool customer.” He remains flexible about his role within the team, expressing readiness to play wherever he is needed, whether it leads him to reserve grade or off the bench.

An extended interview featuring Galvin will be broadcast on 100% Footy, giving further insight into his move and aspirations with his new club.
