In a tragic incident in northern New South Wales, members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) have been injured in a vehicle accident while assisting emergency services following the aftermath of an ex-cyclone. The accident occurred on Tregele Road, south of Lismore, when one vehicle rolled over, leading to a collision with another vehicle.
Out of the 36 ADF personnel involved, eight have sustained serious injuries, with two individuals trapped inside their vehicles. Emergency services rapidly arrived at the scene, and Lismore Hospital has been placed on high alert to receive incoming casualties.
NSW Premier Chris Minns expressed his deep concern over the incident, highlighting that these personnel had come to the Northern Rivers to help ensure the safety of the local community. He remarked on the gravity of the situation, emphasising the ADF’s commitment to assisting during such challenging times. The community is now rallying in support of those injured and their families as they navigate this distressing event.
