A woman accused of murdering her three-year-old daughter has tragically passed away while in custody. Lauren Flanigan, aged 32, was found unresponsive at the Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre on Friday night. She was alleged to have stabbed her daughter Sophie at their residence in Moore Park Beach, Bundaberg, Queensland, just the previous week.

Flanigan was scheduled to appear in court to address the charges in July. After being discovered unconscious, she was promptly taken to a hospital but unfortunately did not survive.

In response to the incident, Queensland Police and Queensland Corrective Services announced that a report would be submitted to the coroner. Additionally, a spokesperson from the Queensland Corrective Services indicated that support would be provided to the officers involved in the situation.
