A mother, aged 42, and her 18-year-old son are part of a group alleged to have conducted a series of thefts across western Sydney over a three-week period, targeting 39 different businesses. Law enforcement officials believe the mother played a key role in planning these crimes.
This spate of thefts culminated early one morning when the son was caught on camera using a hammer to break the front window of a Liquorland store located in Winmalee. His actions drew the attention of a nearby police officer, who pursued him immediately. The suspect fled to a waiting dark grey Suzuki Swift, driven by his mother, where both were promptly arrested and taken to Springwood Police Station.
The pair is linked to various incidents, including a burglary at a bakery in Caddens, where they allegedly smashed in and stole a till, leaving behind a trail of coffee cup lids. Footage reportedly shows another accomplice carrying a till believed to have been taken from a nearby chicken shop.
Police subsequently conducted a raid at a unit in Blackett, arresting a second 18-year-old male, believed to be the younger suspect. Detective Superintendent Trent King of NSW Police noted that the total damage caused by these criminal acts is more than $150,000, significantly impacting local businesses.
Charges against those arrested are still pending as the investigation continues.
