Michael Knaap has stepped down from his positions as chief executive, managing director, and director at Monash IVF, one of the leading names in the fertility treatment sector. Knaap had held the role of chief executive since 2019.
His resignation follows troubling revelations about operational errors within the organisation. Notably, Monash IVF recently disclosed a significant blunder involving a patient in Melbourne, who had their own embryo inadvertently transferred back to them instead of one that belonged to their partner. This incident occurred on June 5. Additionally, there was an earlier mix-up reported two months prior, where a woman in Brisbane carried a baby that belonged to another couple due to a similar error.
In light of these events, an independent review has been initiated to investigate both instances further, although it is noted that the two incidents happened years apart. In the interim, Malik Jainudeen, currently the chief financial officer, has been appointed as the acting chief executive while the review progresses.
