Daniel Billings has been ordered to appear in court regarding the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend, Molly Ticehurst, a 28-year-old childcare educator found dead in her Forbes home on April 22, 2024. Billings faces charges of domestic violence murder along with 16 additional offences. Notably, he had been granted bail just two weeks prior to Ticehurst’s death, despite having been charged with multiple offences against her, including three counts of sexual intercourse without consent, four counts of stalking and intimidation, as well as property damage and aggravated animal cruelty towards her pet in 2023.

In December 2024, he faced further charges, including aggravated sexual assault. Court documents allege that he threatened Ticehurst with physical harm during the purported sexual assault. To date, the 30-year-old has not entered a plea.

During a recent session at Forbes Local Court, where Billings was not required to attend, Crown prosecutor Shaun Croner stated that both parties need a four-week adjournment to finalise ongoing negotiations. Magistrate Michael Maher emphasised that this case has been pending since last April, calling for a committal hearing, which is a preliminary step towards escalating the matter to a higher court. The next court date is set for June 20 at Parkes Local Court, where Billings can participate remotely via audio-visual link from custody.

Ticehurst’s tragic death has heightened awareness around gendered violence, resulting in changes to New South Wales bail laws, which now implement stringent conditions for bail applications and greater monitoring of accused individuals. Family members, including Ticehurst’s parents, were present in court to witness the proceedings.
