Authorities have reportedly suspended an MMA event set to take place in Sydney this month due to concerns over the potential assassination of a notable figure in the sport. Suman Mokhtarian, a former UFC fighter who has transitioned to coaching, has previously survived a shooting incident outside his gym in Wentworthville, which is believed to be linked to gang violence. Despite the serious threats, Mokhtarian stated that he has not received any warnings from the police regarding his safety.

The event’s promoter, Andrew Delmas, expressed his astonishment at the cancellation, insisting that Mokhtarian was not slated to attend and arguing that the event should proceed as planned. Delmas described the abrupt halt in promotion as excessive and unwarranted.

The cancellation has also disappointed several emerging fighters who were looking forward to the event. MMA competitor Farhood Khalatbar highlighted the significance of such opportunities, noting that fighting in front of local fans in Sydney adds immense value to their careers.

In summary, while police concerns have led to event cancellation, the promoter insists on the event’s importance and a community of fighters who yearn for the chance to showcase their talent.
