A significant wet weather system is advancing eastward across Australia, set to bring rainfall to various states and territories as the weekend approaches. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a substantial cold front that recently caused storms in Western Australia is moving towards South Australia and the Northern Territory. The effects of this front will begin to be felt later today in regions of western New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.

In Western Australia, a high-pressure system is expected to bring some respite following days of severe weather, including a suspected tornado in Perth that left significant damage and flooding in its wake. The weather in New South Wales will remain mostly cold and sunny, although temperatures in Canberra could drop to -5 degrees, while Sydney could reach a warmer maximum of 18 degrees. Western NSW will experience heavy rain and strong winds later today, with conditions expected to spread eastward into tomorrow.

Victoria’s western region is forecasted to receive up to 25 mm of rain this afternoon and evening, a promising development for drought-affected areas. Melbourne can expect a cool and breezy day, peaking at 14 degrees. Meanwhile, Queensland will enjoy warmer temperatures close to 30 degrees during the day, although late-afternoon storms and patchy rain are anticipated across the state’s western and south-western parts.

South Australia is predicted to bear the brunt of the weather system today, with widespread rain and strong winds affecting a large area. Tasmania will experience cool, cloudy conditions ahead of rainfall expected to arrive on Friday night, while the Northern Territory will see rain throughout the day.

As this weather system unfolds, multiple weather alerts have been issued nationwide, urging residents to stay informed of changing conditions.
