A tornado struck Levin on Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage throughout the small town. Trish Wilkinson, who was in bed at the time, recounted the experience, describing a loud thunderclap as the tornado tore through, ripping roofs off homes, uprooting trees, and tossing trampolines into the air.

Residents felt the tremors of the storm. One anonymous individual reported hearing rain that intensified, leading to a powerful shake and alarming noises. Upon venturing outside, he discovered his trampoline displaced and a tree fallen on the footpath, alongside damage to the fences between properties.

Craig Gold, an assistant commander with Fire and Emergency, described the scene as chaotic, with debris scattered and items like trampolines scattered across the area. The tornado, which hit around 7:45 AM, moved along the west side of Adventure Park, travelled down the main road and Wilton Street, before lifting off at Playford Park. While notable destruction occurred, officials confirmed there were no injuries reported.

Emergency services received numerous calls about downed fences and trees, with significant destruction reported at the Top 10 Holiday Park, where sheds were left in disarray. The local council activated its emergency operations centre in response to the situation.

Despite the turmoil, damage assessments indicated that the tornado mainly affected Wilton and Carlisle streets, while a few issues arose further afield at Waikato Beach. Repair teams were deployed to assist residents, and while flooding was minimal, emergency management crews checked on affected families.

As clean-up efforts commenced, contractors cleared roadways and addressed blocked utilities, with diversions in place due to fallen trees on State Highway 1. The community has come together in the aftermath of the storm, working to restore normalcy during a challenging time.
