Microsoft Authenticator users are advised to take action before their passwords become inaccessible, as the company prepares to retire its password management features. Microsoft Authenticator is designed to enhance security by providing two-factor authentication for online accounts and allows safe storage and autofilling of passwords on mobile devices.
Beginning June 1, Microsoft will halt the saving of new passwords within the Authenticator app, transitioning this functionality to the Microsoft Edge browser. By July 1, users will find that the autofill feature will no longer operate, and any previously saved payment information—such as credit card details—will be deleted from the Authenticator app. Furthermore, by August, all stored passwords will be removed from the app.
Users who wish to retain access to their passwords and login information post-August will need to download and install Microsoft Edge on their mobile devices. It is important to note that saved payment information won’t automatically be transferred to Edge, necessitating users to re-enter their card details manually.
Microsoft states that this transition is aimed at refining the autofill functionality, making it simpler for users to access their saved passwords across various devices.
