The New York City Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed that her death was due to complications from diabetes mellitus. Initially, the cause of death was ruled undetermined since her family declined an autopsy, and law enforcement found no signs of foul play. Consequently, the medical examiner’s office respected the family’s wishes.
Emergency services responded to a 911 call early that morning, discovering Trachtenberg unconscious in her Manhattan apartment. Despite the efforts of EMS, she was pronounced dead at the scene. An NYPD source indicated that Trachtenberg had been dealing with recent health issues, and her death appeared to result from natural causes.
Trachtenberg began her career as a child actor on Nickelodeon in the ’90s, gaining prominence through her role in “The Adventures of Pete & Pete.” She starred in Nickelodeon’s first film, “Harriet the Spy,” in 1996 alongside Rosie O’Donnell. Her breakout role came in 2000 when she played Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Buffy, in the cult classic “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Throughout her career, Trachtenberg took on a variety of roles, showcasing her versatility. She appeared in the teen comedy “EuroTrip,” the acclaimed drama “Six Feet Under,” and the family film “Ice Princess.” Later, she became known for portraying the scheming character Georgina Sparks in the popular series “Gossip Girl.”
The medical examiner has classified Trachtenberg’s manner of death as natural, adding a somber note to the loss of a beloved actress whose contributions to television and film continue to be celebrated.
