Gina Schumacher, the daughter of legendary Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher, has openly shared the pivotal role that horse riding played in her life following her father’s severe skiing accident in 2013. At just 16 years old, Gina’s world was turned upside down as Michael suffered traumatic brain injuries, significantly altering their father-daughter bond.

A new documentary titled “Horsepower – The World of Gina Schumacher” chronicles Gina’s journey within the Western riding community, showcasing both her accomplishments and her evolving relationship with her father. Gina credits her passion for horses with helping her cope during those difficult times, stating, “I couldn’t do without horses. They helped me get through everything.”

The film also includes insights from her mother, Corinna Schumacher, who highlights Michael’s foresight, having predicted Gina would excel in her chosen sport. “Gina will be much better than you,” he once remarked, recognising Gina’s competitive spirit at a young age. Corinna, herself a former horse rider, has transitioned into breeding horses, a shift that Gina discusses in the documentary.

Set against the backdrop of their ranches in the United States and Switzerland, the documentary will illustrate Gina’s rise in reining—a discipline of Western riding—where she has already claimed multiple world championship titles, including double gold in team and individual events set for 2025.

Reflecting on her journey, Gina expresses profound gratitude towards her parents for the opportunities they have provided, emphasising the importance of hard work in achieving her dreams. Meanwhile, her brother Mick is also carving a niche for himself in motorsport, now with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in IndyCar, following his stint in Formula 1.

This unique documentary not only showcases Gina’s accomplishments as a rider but also offers a rare glimpse into the Schumacher family’s private life, which has largely remained shielded from public scrutiny. Through this film, viewers will witness the resilience and dedication that have defined Gina’s path amid personal and familial challenges.
