Two men, Justin Charles Robinson and Damian Joshua Arkeveld, both 27, have appeared in court over allegations they sprayed antisemitic graffiti in various areas of Perth, including Nedlands, Dianella, and Dalkeith. The graffiti, which included messages like “Hitler was correct,” appeared on walls, bus stops, and signs between February 1 and 2. Police quickly apprehended the suspects after receiving community tips, supported by CCTV evidence.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Arkeveld’s phone contained hateful messages, yet he claimed he does not subscribe to those views and respects the Jewish community. Robinson was granted bail with restrictions, including a 200-metre exclusion zone from synagogues, while Arkeveld’s bail hearing has been postponed until next month.
WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch emphasised the importance of community vigilance in addressing hate crimes, stating that such behaviour will not be tolerated in Western Australia. Dedicated patrols have been implemented to ensure the safety of the Jewish community. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with authorities committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
