A significant incident occurred at Melbourne Central Station this morning when a fire alarm was activated shortly after 7 am, prompting an evacuation of the facility. This disruption resulted in considerable delays during the busy peak hour commute.

According to Andrew Cook from the Department of Transport, all train services are currently operating to and from Flinders Street Station, bypassing the City Loop due to the ongoing situation. Passengers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes as the network adjusts to the changes in train routes.

Cook mentioned that they are awaiting further information from Fire Rescue Victoria about the situation. He highlighted that, as a result of the diversion, there is a backlog of trains at Flinders Street. For those needing to reach other stations, he advised using trams as an alternative means of transport.

This incident has caused significant disruption to the morning commute for many Melburnians.
