Melania Trump, the former First Lady, has issued a demand for Hunter Biden to retract statements he made linking her to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Biden, who is the son of former President Joe Biden, made these allegations during an interview with journalist Andrew Callaghan, claiming that Epstein was responsible for introducing Melania to her husband, Donald Trump. In response, Melania’s lawyer, Alejandro Brito, has characterised Biden’s comments as false, defamatory, and “extremely salacious.”
The statements have reportedly caused significant reputational and financial damage to Melania, leading her legal team to threaten a lawsuit against Biden for $1 billion should he fail to retract his remarks. The letter sent to Biden outlines the distress caused by the widespread dissemination of his comments across social media and various news outlets.
During the interview, Biden expressed frustration with certain elites and members of the Democratic Party, claiming they undermined his father’s presidential campaign. He specifically stated, “Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep,” attributing this information to author Michael Wolff. Trump has previously disparaged Wolff, labelling him a “Third Rate Reporter” and has accused him of fabricating stories for book sales.
This threat of legal action reflects a strategy commonly employed by Melania’s husband, who is known for aggressively pursuing litigation against critics. Notably, public figures like the Trumps face substantial hurdles in proving defamation in court.
The long-standing narrative from the Trumps suggests that Donald and Melania were introduced by a modelling agent named Paolo Zampolli at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998, contradicting Biden’s claims. Melania’s lawyer’s letter to Biden is dated August 6, and the allegations were initially reported by Fox News Digital.
As of now, no comment has been provided by Abbe Lowell, Biden’s legal representative, regarding the situation.
