According to authorities, the confrontation began when an unidentified individual engaged the driver in a physical struggle. The assailant is reported to have punched and kicked the victim before bringing him to the ground. The driver, a 31-year-old man from Springvale, was subsequently rushed to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

The perpetrator fled the scene, with the last sighting of him occurring as he ran along Ballarat Road. He is described as being of Middle Eastern or Indian descent, approximately 175 cm tall with a solid build, and believed to be in his 30s.
