In a groundbreaking moment, the Matildas debuted the new Nike and Football Australia 2025 collection during their SheBelieves Cup match against Japan — making them the first national team to sport this innovative kit. Designed by Kamilaroi artist Reko Rennie, this is the inaugural collection crafted by a First Nations artist for a national team. Notably, the Aboriginal flag is showcased for the first time on both the home and away kits, prominently positioned to signify pride.
The vibrant designs are described as a “bold reinterpretation” of Australia’s traditional green and gold, incorporating patterns inspired by traditional Aboriginal message sticks. Rennie expressed his pride, stating that it’s an honour to represent his community through this unique opportunity. The home kit features a fresh take on the classic colours, complemented by forest green shorts, while the away kit introduces Rennie’s signature pink, offering a modern twist reflective of ochre used in First Nations art.
The Socceroos will also adopt this new design in their upcoming AFC Asian qualifiers. This collection not only highlights artistic expression but also fosters a deeper connection to First Nations culture within the sporting community.
