The Matildas find themselves in a peculiar situation, as they are yet to appoint a permanent head coach following the departure of Tony Gustavsson after a disappointing Olympics. Currently, Tom Sermanni is serving as the interim coach but is uncertain about his future.
When asked about his position, Sermanni responded with a smile, expressing that he does not know how long he will remain in the role. He stated, “I’m here as long as I’m required,” indicating that his tenure could end after the upcoming tournament or extend to future matches, including games against Korea.
Sermanni acknowledged that there may be a new coach in place by mid-year, but for now, he is focused on fulfilling his responsibilities. “If I’m being perfectly frank, I just come in and do the job,” he said, emphasising his commitment to the role, regardless of the time frame.
The uncertainty surrounding the coaching position adds an intriguing dynamic to the Matildas’ preparations as they look to regain their footing after a challenging period.
