Two officials from the Australian Border Force were injured while escorting a detainee to Sydney Airport for deportation early this morning. The incident occurred around 3:40 am in Clyde, Sydney’s western suburbs.

The officers, aged 54 and 36, were attacked by a 28-year-old man they were accompanying from the Villawood detention centre. Reports indicate that the older officer sustained stab wounds to the neck and cheek, while the younger officer was also assaulted. Both men have been taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment, with their injuries reportedly not life-threatening.

In the aftermath, police have released a description of the assailant, who is believed to be of Pacific Islander or Māori descent. The suspect is described as having a tanned complexion, a large build, and standing approximately 180 cm tall. He has black hair, dark eyes, and was unshaven at the time of the attack. He was reportedly dressed in a black coat, black track pants, and black-and-white sneakers.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, seeking information that could assist in apprehending the assailant. Further updates on the situation are expected to follow.
