Emergency services responded to a call at a residence on Chestnut Place in The Gap around 4.20pm (5.20pm AEDT) today. Upon their arrival, a 79-year-old woman was discovered unresponsive at the scene and was subsequently pronounced dead.
During the incident, police patrols were observed in the vicinity, utilizing lights and sirens, seemingly searching for a person or potential evidence linked to the case. Forensic officers were summoned to conduct a thorough investigation.
Local residents and passersby reported to 9News that they did not hear any disturbances or unusual activity around the time of the incident. Later in the evening, the Australian Federal Police apprehended a 40-year-old man at approximately 6.25pm. As of now, no charges have been filed against him.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
