In a concerning incident in Melbourne, a man was discovered on the roadside suffering from severe injuries, believed to be the result of a hit and run. The 35-year-old was reportedly walking along the Western Freeway at the Mount Cottrell Road entrance in Cobblebank around 7am when he was hit by a vehicle that was turning onto the highway.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lineham indicated that the injuries sustained by the man are consistent with a hit and run scenario. He noted that the nature of the injuries suggests that the vehicle involved was not travelling at a high speed, implying that the driver may have been unaware of striking a pedestrian, particularly in that area, which features merging lanes.

The injured man was promptly transported to the hospital, where he is being treated for injuries to his head, upper body, and legs. In the wake of this incident, authorities have set up a crime scene to conduct a thorough investigation.

Police are appealing to the public for assistance, asking anyone who may have been driving in the vicinity between 2.30am and 7am to contact them or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
