A dramatic police chase unfolded in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast last night, culminating in a man being Tasered. William Berringer, 30, allegedly participated in a brawl between two groups on Cavill Avenue around 8.30pm. When approached by police, he reportedly fled towards the Nerang River, diving in and swimming through shark-infested waters in an attempt to evade capture.

Subsequently, Berringer was discovered in the backyard of a residential property on Tarcoola Crescent, where he was reportedly trying to scale a fence. Police deployed a Taser to subdue him, but he continued to evade apprehension temporarily. He was ultimately Tasered a second time and taken into custody.

Berringer appeared in court today, facing charges of public nuisance and obstructing police efforts.
