A 23-year-old man from New Zealand has received a six-month prison sentence in Victoria, Australia, following an incident where he assaulted two airline crew members during a disruptive episode on an international flight. The man was arrested on October 23 of the previous year while inebriated on a flight from Perth to Auckland.
His aggressive behaviour, which included refusing to follow crew instructions, led to an attack on two crew members, resulting in minor injuries. In response to the chaos, the flight was redirected to Melbourne Airport, where Australian Federal Police apprehended the individual.
On April 17 this year, he entered a guilty plea to two counts of assaulting airline crew. Although sentenced to six months behind bars, he will not serve time in prison but instead will be released immediately under a two-year good behaviour bond. Additionally, he has been ordered to compensate the airline with a payment of $10,824 for the distress and disruption caused by his actions.
