In a remarkable display of bravery, a 66-year-old man intervened after witnessing a crash involving an allegedly stolen blue Volkswagen Golf in Seaford, Melbourne. The incident occurred during school pickup hours, resulting in the Golf colliding with two parked vehicles, which then hit the vigilante’s car. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The man, en route to his daughter’s house, performed a citizen’s arrest on a 16-year-old boy attempting to flee from the wreck. He pinned the teenager down until police arrived around 3.30pm, explaining, “I just knew if he got up he’d just bolt.” He initially approached the vehicle concerned someone might be trapped inside.
Witnesses praised his actions, with one, a teacher’s aide, noting the incident could have had dire consequences, especially with children present. “If it didn’t hit me, it could’ve hit a kid,” she remarked.
While another teen escaped into a nearby home, the police later apprehended the 16-year-old, who is expected to face charges, allegedly in connection with a theft that occurred days prior. The police have stated that the vehicle was reported stolen from Rowville.
