In a dramatic incident in Victoria’s Central Goldfields, police fatally shot a man who reportedly fired at officers during a lengthy stand-off. The situation began around 3pm in Daisy Hill, located approximately 50 kilometres north of Ballarat, following reports of gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries occurred in the initial incident; however, a critical incident response team, alongside a special operations group and dog squad, was dispatched to the scene on Menzies Drive.
The standoff unfolded over “several hours,” culminating in a confrontation where the man allegedly discharged shots towards the police. According to a statement from Victoria Police, officers returned fire shortly before 10pm, resulting in the man’s death at the site. Due to the circumstances, the homicide squad will undertake an investigation into the shooting, with oversight from the professional standards command.
